5/27/22 Week 6:
Response to: Attributional Tendencies, is it affecting the English TESOL class?
The
video and all resources give me an idea about the behavior and needs of my
future culturally diverse students. Depending on your country of origin, they
will have different cultures, traditions, thinking, and behavior.
Well, having students from different cultures students can produce misunderstandings and problems in the TESOL classroom, but as teachers, we are now better prepared to address that situation, in my case, this course is given me all the tools to support the students by teaching the rules in class, and basic information about each culture.
I am
from another culture, and I had many cross-culture situations adapting to the
US, but front personal space, and front the attribute tendencies about success
and failure. My personal experience in English class combined with this academy
training, permit I can support my students in learning English, and
understanding each culture, we are different, but we have similar aspects. In
the process of adaptation to the new culture, the walls will go fall, and you
start to comprehend the new rules; when you come back for a visit to your
country, you will feel uncomfortable, that was my experience, and also my
attribution tendencies in the success are internal and failure is extern, like
North American people. Easy, because is the same in my culture. Well, what will happen, when you share a lot
of time whit Asian people? in the classroom, the students have the opportunity
to share much time with other cultures, learn, etc. I have my answer, that
multiculturism will influence you, and is great, you can take the best and
apply it in your life. Now I have a
combination; when I have failed in something, I check first what I did wrong
before I think is an external cause.

Irene, I totally agree with you on multiculturism influencing us. We totally should be influenced and open minded to adopt new ways. I do want to take the best from people and hopefully give the best of myself as well.
ReplyDeleteIrene, In some cases, we don´t have multiculturalism from other countries, but we have from the same country, and as you said, we have the opportunity to take the best. I believe we should teach our students to check first before thinking about external causes. Thanks for your blog
