“In the Great American Teacher Dead”

This article created for John J. Ivers is an analysis of the situation in education in the USA and a compilation of the concepts from different authors with the correspondent conclusion published in 2012.

American teachers can be resurrected through the use of meaningfulness, metacognition, transformative education, cultural introspections, cross-cultural exploration, brain research, imitational education, and the study of human universals extent in all cultures.

The author explains the principal aspects of each one, additional the concept from other academic authors on different dates, also expose a question: “Anthropologist would generally claim that cultural outsiders are much better equipped to see the “obvious”. If that is truly the case, what might foreign anthropologists be saying about the U.S. educational system and its teaching?

Well, the lecture passed on the concept based on studies done by academics like E.L. Cerroni-Long (1993), Rick Pinxten (1993), Arum and Roksn (2011), and Cote and Allahar (2011), Baverlin (2008), Hacker and Dreifus (2010). That explains that students need to have a high degree of student disengagement, lack of motivation and inspiration, and poor teaching, even at the most elite institutions are a national disgrace. But these books, none without controversy, tend to indicate that the anthropologists speaking in the early 1990s may have been on to something that may be quite extant today, conclude the author. This was in 2012, now is 2022, and that problem in my concept is overcome, now by the evolution of technology and the multicultural contact. The system of education changed and permits the world connection between different cultures, there are exchange programs in High schools and Colleges, and each program has the support of tutors with the language.

The author previously chose the 18 best elements from some authors, after his studies, the author created his list of the elements that the teachers need to apply in class:

1. Positive teacher-student relationship
2. A good “delivery”
3. Edifies rather than damages a student’s self-concept
4. Clarity (through the use of many examples and stories)
5. Encourages deep and critical thinking
6. Variety instead of monotony (do not forget the Ten-Minute Rule)
7. Grading and workload are generally perceived to be fair
8. Enthusiasm and zest for the topic
9. Meaningful to real-world problems
10.  Potentially transforms one’s worldview from one of uncritical acceptance of cultural dictates to one of deep, reflective, and compassionate thinking.

We have all these tools that are included in the different methods of studying through English TESOL, and also in our practice teaching second languages; we will discover other tools and improve the existing one’s other teachers can use. The Education system is now universal thanks to technology and each teacher's contribution. The COVID-19 pandemic showed to us another door for improving the system education distance, BYU PathwayConnect is proof of this universal system; the students from all world can connect and improve their academic skills, and the teacher can improve the technology tools and Lesson plans. This is a new age; we can give the best.
